Living Transcendence
Embodying stabilized spiritual consciousness — living, in Maslow’s phrase, at a constantly high level of illumination or awakening.
What it is
Living at a constant height
Transcendence, in Maslow’s sense, refers to the highest and most inclusive levels of human consciousness. When such a state stabilizes — what Maslow called the “high plateau” — it is lived continuously rather than glimpsed in peaks. Many traditions treat this stabilization as the consummation of the search for the sacred.
The question is not how to reach a peak, but what it means to live steadily at a constantly high level of illumination or awakening.
The research question
Stabilization as a research problem
What distinguishes a genuinely stabilized state from a merely recurrent one, and how might such stabilization be described and studied with method? This was the focus of doctoral research into Living Transcendence.
